Welcome to Earth. We should all be familiar with this planet as it is our home planet and as far as any scientist know, the only planet with life. It is named after Gaea, or Mother Earth, who was the great Goddess worshipped by early Greeks.

The Earth's diameter is 12,753 Km, or 7,926 miles around and can be anywhere from 91 to 94.5 million miles away from the Sun. As we all know, a full day is 24 hours long and a year is 365 days and 5 hours long. Our average temperature can be from a freezing -128 degrees to an extremely hot 136 degrees Fahrenheit. We are the first of the inner planets to have a moon within its orbit. It is the largest and most densest of the rocky planets; it has many different features such as volcanoes, lakes, oceans, etc. that make it the unique planet that it is. Since this is our planet, let's go ahead and move on to the next planet- Mars.

Here we are, at the planet Mars; it is named after Ares, the Greek God of war who was known as a strong warrior and had a desire for violence.

The diameter of Mars is 6,785 Km or 4,217 miles around and can be 128 to 155 million miles away from the Sun. A day on Mars is about 24.6 hours and a year is about 1.88 years here on Earth. The average temperature on the planet is a chilling -200 degrees to 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The surface on Mars is almost similar to that of Earth's as we see signs of ice caps and volcanoes; it also has two moons within its orbit. Mars has been in the news a lot in the last few years as we finally put robots on the surface to investigate it.

Before we head off to the next four planets, we will have a bumpy ride as we cross through the asteroid belt, so strap on your seat belt on hold on!
