The milk group includes liquid milk as well as foods made from milk. Only milk products that contain calcium are part of the milk group.

Foods: foods in the milk group include milk, yogurt and cheese. Milk includes flavored milks and lactose free milks like soy milk. Cheese includes any kind of cheese that contains calcium such as cheddar, swiss, mozzerella, cottage cheese, ricotta, and parmesan. Also desserts that are made using milk such as pudding are considered to be foods in the milk group.
Servings:The ammount of servings of milk needed depends on sex, age, and activity level. The average serving need is about 2-3 cups. A cup of milk looks like
Health benefits:Milk contins many nutrients that provide benefits for your body. Calcium helps build strong bones and teeth and is important for maintaining bone mass ie preventing osteoporosis. Vitamin D helps the body to maintain the correct levels of calcium in the body. Potassium helps maintain a health blood pressure.
Drinking/eating milk: Many people do not like drinking milk by itself, but milk products can be incorpated into meals in a variety of ways. Some examples include eating cereal with milk, adding cheese to recipes like topping spaghetti with parmesan, eating yogurt with granola or fruit, and using milk to make desserts like pudding.
Low fat Vs. High fat milk: it is important to try and choose milk products that have the lowest ammount of fat content ie fat free milk vs. whole milk because of the negative health implications that fat has on the body. Diets high in fat can lead to a number of health problems like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
