Proposed Partnership

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) , Indian Education/Civil Rights Program has historically development of materials in cooperation with the Oregon Indian Education Association (OIEA). This has proved effective and I would propose that the success of this proposed project would be enhanced if ODE’s Indian Education coordinator worked with the OIEA to form a committee modeled after their Curriculum Committee.

The following individuals could be contacted to see if they would be interested in helping with this project:
Dianna Kale Twila Souers
Norrine Smokey-Smith Jim Thornton
Robin Butterfield Charles Calica
Esther Stutzman Carol Minugh
Nickolee Van Noort Robey Clark
Jeff Zucker Dawn Smith
Denise Mason Floy Pepper
Freida Kirk Ernie St. Germaine
Anita Chisholm

In addition, the program should reach out towards teachers. The following is a list of teacher that may be interested in helping with this project:

Margaret Cavinaw Mary Ellen Showalter
Lauren A. Usher Chrisann Deurwaarder
Nancy B. Kuney Susan Knapp

If the project advances to the point were we would be applying for Federal Funding, it would be appropriate to reach out community members with this expertise; specifically Floy Pepper, Norrine Smokey-Smith and Robey Clark.

It is critical for the success of this project that any opinions, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed are supported by the OIEA’s Oregon Indian Curriculum Committee.
