Thunderstorms are electrical storms that produce lightening followed by thunder. A thunderstorm is formed when moist air is heated and rises quickly. When it rises up, the higher it gets the colder it is and the air cools rapidly. Tiny drops of water then form making a thunderhead cloud.

FACT : every single day over 10 million lightening bolts hit the earth. Lightening bolts are caused by many electrical charges that build up inside a thundercloud. These bolts are just like rivers of electricity running between the ground the clouds.

During a storm you are safer to be inside a building than outside. If you fin yourself outside stay away from tall trees, telephone poles or anything tall as lightening strikes the tallest object. If you are outside and cannot get into a car or house, couch down but keep your hands off the ground, try to be like a basketball with legs.
