The two horizontal sides of
a
rectangle are called its length (l).
The two vertical
sides of the
rectangle are
called its width (w).
The
area
of a rectangle is
found
by
multiplying one
length by one
width.

Area = Length X Width
A = lw
Example: If a rectangle has a length
of 8 inches and a width of 4 inches,
the area would be 8 inches times
4 inches, equal to 32 inches.
A = 8 x 4
A = 32 in.
