Fire Ants

Color: Dark reddish brown

Size: 1/8-3/8 inch long

Where do they live?: Southern U.S., California and New Mexico

Fire ants generally nest in the soil in moist areas suach as near river banks or ponds. Nests are usually not visible because thet are built under logs, rocks, or bricks. If they are built above ground they are dome shaped mounds that can reach about 1 foot high. The nests can also be as deep as 5 feet.
