- By using orbiting satellite that are
capable of observing the light spectrum and analyzing that data for
molecular fingerprinting purposes we will be able to view components of the
atmosphere or take a look at most anywhere on earths surface and know, or at
least have a reasonable idea, of what elements and molecules make up
whatever it is that we are looking at. - According to Argonne National Laboratories: "We can use this technology (molecular fingerprinting) to detect chemical and biological agents and also to determine if a country is using its nuclear reactors to produce material for nuclear weapons or to track the direction of a chemical or radioactive plume to evacuate an area8" - Pharmaceutical error is a serious problem: "more than one person per day in the U.S. dies from a medication error.9" Pharmacists have used spectroscopic techniques and molecular fingerprinting to reduced errors in the distribution of medications. - The use of spectroscopy and molecular fingerprinting can yield valuable information on coastal waters as to their composition and their trends. With such information we can determine important features of wildlife as well as evidence of global warming and related issues. - Through the use of molecular fingerprinting techniques and remote sensing we will be able to know things about geology that we did not before such as molecular composition of a wide variety of geological formations to trends that exist throughout the world. |
