praying mantis

The praying mantis its named for its big front legs which resemble someone praying went put together. They can turn their heads 180 degrees to check their surroundings and see if anything is around them. They have two large eyes on the front of their head and they also have three smaller eyes located between their large eyes. The praying mantis is usually green or brown to blend in with the plants. They are very effective hunters because they do blend in so well and because the resemble leafs or sticks. When unsuspecting prey comes near the praying mantis quickly extends its front two feet and grabs its prey almost quicker than the eye can see. They eat most insects and the females have even been known to eat males of their own species during or after mating.
