End Of Program |
When the war ended, the Bracero Program was gradually phased out, and migratory Mexican-American workers began to replace those who had earlier been imported. For many states the bracero labor force had been the decisive factor in the state’s ability to sustain critical agricultural production, and Mexican men therefore had played a significant role in winning the war. Many government officials and farmers expressed their gratitude and understood that Mexican labor was essential to agriculture. One farmer suggested that they were a God-sent in a time of need. |
