Roald Amundsen
Roald Amundsen was a Norweign who explored the polar regions. He was born on July 16, 1872 and disappeared during a rescue mission on June 18, 1928 at age 55. Amundsen, along with another Norweign pilot and three French pilots where looking for missing members of the Italia airship that had crashed while returning from the North Pole. He is the first person to traverse the Northwest Passage.
He lead the first Antarctic expedition to reach the South Pole during a 1910-1912 expedition.
He is the first person to reach both the North and South Poles.
