Altostratus

Altostratus clouds are usually a gray or blue-gray cloud that covers the entire sky.

In thinner sections of this type cloud the sun or moon may be dimly visible as a round disk which is sometimes referred to as a "watery sun".

Altostratus clouds usually form ahead of stomrs, and have widespread and mostly continuous precipitation.

Altocumulus

Altocumulus clouds appear as gray, puffy masses, sometimes rolled in parallel waves or bands.

If these clouds appear on a warm, humid summer morning there will usually be thunderstorms by late afternoon.
