After the 1993 earthquake, St. Mary's Public School was left uninhabitable, so Mt. Angel School District bought a building that belonged to St. Mary's Parrish to renovate and make it the school that is used today. Teachers became active members of the development of the school and made key decisions in the elements the school now has.
