Middle School Math

I decided to pursue my authorization in upper elementary and middle school. I really like working with this age group because I feel that they are they old enough to begin learning about "life" but still young enough that they are not so set in their ways that you can't make an impact. I know that I have had a lot of fun working with this age group in the past and look forward to teaching this age group in the future.

I chose to get my endorsement in math because, not only do I enjoy it even though I am not a "math genius," but I feel like it is a really important subject. There are many people and students out there who fear math and have extreme math anxiety. I really hope to be a teacher who changes the way people feel about math. I think that math is one of the subjects that is becoming increasingly more important in today's world. With the technological push and competitive nature in the workforce, the better students are at mathematics, the better off they will be in the future. With math being such an incremental subject, meaning that it builds upon itself, students need to feel comfortable with numbers and mathematical operations. I hope that my experience and knowledge will create an environment where students not only learn the content and meet the standards, but see the real life application and importance of math!
