Conclusion

In this activity about the forces influencing the evolution of a population, we saw that:
1. evolutionary change is influenced by mutation, gene flow, genetic drift, nonrandom mating, and natural selection
2. mutations can be changes in the DNA nucleotide sequence or larger alterations to chromosomes
3. gene flow among different populations makes them more genetically similar
4. genetic drift in small populations tends to eliminate alleles
5. nonrandom mating in populations changes the proportions of genotypes
6. natural selection increases the frequencies of favored alleles.
