Horses

Horses are large, strong animals with hoofs and a long mane and tail. People use horses for riding. Horses are also used to carry heavy loads or pull wagons, carriages, plows, or other implements.

Harder - For thousands of years, the horse has been one of the most useful animals. They once provided the fastest and surest way for land travel. Hunters mounted on horseback chased and killed animals. Fighters and soldiers fought battles on their sturdy war horses.

Today horses are not the mainstay of work and transportation as they once were. In most countries, they have been replaced by the 'iron horse' and the 'horseless carriage.' But people still use horses. A few employ horses for work, while many others keep horses for sport and recreation.
