Children's Books in High School Classrooms

Using children's books in high school classrooms...

... to explore themes.

... as mentor/inspirational texts.

... to consider audience.

... for language acquisition.

Inspiration from Dr. Seuss's The Lorax for creative writing.

Background: A grim warning of a once vibrant and lively forest destroyed by greed and a disregard for nature.

Suggestions for Use: There are endless possibilities for a creative writing prompt, including (but certainly not limited to): a retelling of the story from the opposite perspective, an alternative ending, an extended ending, a news story of the event, a "real-life" version of the story, etc.
