Salmon
Salmon Fishing is usually done in the fall and spring. I like to fish the Siletz, Nestucca, Three Rivers, Yaquina, and Salmon Rivers. I go when ever I get a chance, but fall chinook fishing is usually interupted by rugby. The fall chinook are usually larger in size, numbers, and are usually more agressive than their spring counter parts, which is why I love fishing for them. It is best to fish for this species after a good rain, when the water is a mossy green color. You can check current river levels at the NOAA website. While many people like to use a bait casting gear, I use spinning gear as a matter of preferance and because I like taking friends who do not fish a lot and could have some trouble fishing with an open faced reel. Below are some images of gear to use and of course the salmon we love to catch and eat.
Waders can be very advantagous!! They will help you wade across rivers without getting cold and wet.
A good fishing rod can make all the difference!! Here are some G-Loomis rods that can sence the lightest bitters. The top rod is a baitcaster, while the lower one is a spinning rod.
This 30lb + salmon would be considered a good catch here in Oregon. These fish are known to get up to around 98lbs!!
