5. The Quantum Atom

The current view of the atom is inspired by quantum mechanics, which state that
the exact position and velocity of a particle cannot be measured at the same time.

The consequence of this in the atom is that we can't tell exactly where an
electron is at any given moment, but we can predict where it most likely will be.

The areas of greatest likelihood for electrons to exist are called orbitals.
