SI Prefixes

SI prefixes are used with SI base units to form a new SI unit that is greater or less than the base unit by some multiple of 10. For example "centi" is a prefix that means 1/100. When "centi" is placed in front of a base unit, such as meter, the new unit is called a centimeter and has the value of 1/100th the length of a meter.

Some of the common SI prefixes, symbols, and values are presented in the table below.
