Micropipetting and Electrophoresis
There are two basic skills that you will need to master to work with DNA, micropipetting and electrophoresis. Today you will review how to use micropipettors to accurately measure out very small quantities of liquid samples. You also will learn how to cast an agarose gel for doing electrophoresis and do a simple electrophoresis experiment.
The instructions for the micropipetting part of the experiment can be downloaded here.
We are using a commercial experiment for our electrophoresis experiment. The procedure for that part of the experiment can be obtained here. You will be making a 0.8% agarose gel (microwave method) using a 7 x 7 gel bed. Read the document for the background information. We will be modifying that procedure to fit our laboratory equipment.
