Doping

• The process of doping introduces an atom of another element into a silicon crystal to alter its electrical properties.

• The dopant has either 3 or 5 electrons instead of silicon’s 4 electrons

• A dopant having 5 electrons generates n-type material

• A dopant having 3 electrons generates p-type material
