Windows 2003
Written by Kevin Burr
We at E-LEET Solutions feel that
using Windows Server 2003 would be the best operating system for use in their
upgraded computer science department server. It provides all of the needed
functionality and security that they need. It is also possible for schools to
get grants from Microsoft Corporation in order to get the software for free.
We suggest using Windows Server
2003’s Terminal
Services to it fullest. This will reduce the cost of the upgrade because
instead of buying any new stand alone machines, we plan on using existing
machines as thin clients. By doing this it will allow the students to access
their information from anywhere on the network with a familiar windows interface.
This will make administration activities much more centralized efficient.
Windows Server 2003 makes it easy to
implement a storage
area network. A storage area network will allow the students to save files
onto their own network drive. This will give them a place to store files and
turn in homework. This gives even more security because files will be stored in
one place that can be backed up on a regular basis.
Each student will also have access
to a special network folder where they can create websites. This knowledge of website
creation is becoming an extremely important part of working in any professional
setting.
